Porkbun Review 2026: Cheap Domains and Free Extras

Porkbun has earned a loyal following among developers and indie hackers with consistently low prices and a no-nonsense approach. Here is what makes it stand out.

Pricing: Consistently Low, With One Caveat

Porkbun prices are competitive on most TLDs — often matching or beating Cloudflare on first-year registration. Unlike GoDaddy or Namecheap, there are generally no dramatic registration-vs-renewal differences on core TLDs. The notable exception: .io renewals at $51.80/year are nearly double the registration price of $28.12. Always check renewal prices on premium TLDs before registering.

Free WHOIS Privacy + Free SSL

Porkbun includes WHOIS privacy protection and an SSL certificate free on every domain. GoDaddy charges $3–10/year for privacy and more for SSL. For a developer registering a handful of domains, these savings add up quickly.

Developer-Friendly API

Porkbun has a clean REST API covering domain registration, transfers, and DNS management. Well-documented and straightforward to integrate. Popular for automating domain management in scripts and tools.

Verdict: 4.5/5

Excellent pricing, free extras, clean interface, good API. The only registrar that rivals Cloudflare on price without requiring you to use Cloudflare nameservers. Best for developers who want flexibility without paying more for it.
